Bethel #1 Cemetery encompasses 3 sections. The old historic section that borders Liberty Baptist Cemetery, a section across Highway 29 from Liberty Baptist Cemetery, and the currently active section adjacent to Bethel #1 Missionary Baptist Church. Burials began in the historic section in the 1830's. Similar to many historic cemeteries in the South, enslaved persons were buried on the margins of White cemeteries. Following emancipation, burials continued until the 1960's when the available plots were filled. Burials then began on the other side of Highway 29. Once the plots were filled there, burials began on the lot of the church building.
