Louisiana Mangrum-Yoos
1846 - January 4, 1927
At 19 years of age, Louisa purchased her first piece of property within two years of emancipation. In total, she owned over 500 acres of land in Texas and California including an event hall, a lodge, and much of the land around Camptown Cemetery in Brenham, Texas. Louisa educated herself, exercised her rights, protected and cared for others, and was an inspiration to those in her community. Mangrum Street bears her name. In her last will and testament, Louisa requested her grave be marked suitable to her station in life. Her final resting place remains unknown and unmarked, but she rests somewhere in the eternal shade of Camptown Cemetery.
Youth Project
My name is Abigail Bubb and for my church youth project, I chose the goal to honor my 3xGreat Grandmother by getting her a memorial that she asked for in her will. Because we do not know where she is buried in Camptown Cemetery, I decided to earn and raise money by the time I graduate high school in 2028 toward a bench memorial that we can place in the cemetery. However, I was able to complete my goal in December of 2023.

Memorial Costs
The memorial bench ended up costing $9,890.50. The remaining $109.50 was donated to the Camptown Cemetery Association. By establishing community partnerships, I plan to also make improvements around the memorial bench such as stepping stones, gravel, and plants.
