Lou Frazier
Lemuel “Lou” Lamar Frazier was a black man who traveled from Alabama to Indiana during the 2nd Great Migration somewhere in the 1940s.which resulted from African Americans trying to escape Jim Crows in the South, African Americans trying to seek new economic opportunities in the North, combined with a series of agricultural hardships. He was born around December 9, 1901. Lou had two sisters. Bessie was the oldest, being born around 1892, Victoria around 1897, and then Lou. Annie Crump was born around 1910. Lou’s parents were Emma and Charles Frazier. Charles was a farm laborer, but likely died between 1900 and 1904. Emma got remarried to George Crump in 1904 and became the head of household. Lou and his siblings received an education and learned to read and write. Lou got married to Bella “Bell” Morgan in 1914. Bell was 19 at the time, and Lou was 13 when the pair got married. Bella was educated and had at least six brothers and three sisters. There is no reason to believe they had any children, but it can be assumed that Bell died relatively young, as Lou was a widow in 1940. Lou was part of the Second Great Migration when Lou moved from Alabama to Indiana where he lived for around 40 years. He worked in a sheet and tin mill in Indiana until his death in 1962. Lou filled out a draft card for WWII in 1942, but it is likely that he never actually served. Lou died on March 17, he lived at 813 Massachusetts Street, Apt 204 in Gary, Indiana during this time 1962 at 61 years old at the Methodist hospital due to pneumonitis. This was likely caused by heart and brain disease caused by severe dehydration, possibly caused by his employment in the mill.
